Fermette Les Beaux Arts: about the owners…

The Fermette in which our inn was established has served as such since the 60's of the last century. After the building was acquired by the present hostess Lisa van Muilekom, it has undergone a complete renovation in order to serve as an accommodation for the performing arts.
Part of the fine accommodation has a very fine concert auditorium named J. S. Bach!
In the realm of traditional half-timbered architecture ( also known as "Tudor style" in the English-speaking world the J.S. Bach enjoys excellent acoustics. Besides this advantage the J. S. Bach also houses an extensive music library, next to a large collection of instruments.

More concerning our objectives

Our objectives

Lisa aim to bring about in their guests the desire for discovery and cultural growth. The discovery of our beautiful region and its natural environment, the acquaintance with others and their qualities, as fellow guests and participants in good conversation. The cultivation of deeper appreciation of music, be it as a performer or as a listener. All of this should not hinder you needs of relaxation and as well.

Our guestrooms

"Fermette Les Beaux Arts" offers you a choice out of five guestrooms, all named after musicians and other artist.

The Gesualdo room

The Couperin room

...named after an Italian musical genius of the 16th century who was far ahead of his time, this room offers the comfort of a private bathroom. This quiet room at the ground floor also has its own entrance from the street side.

...named after an organist of the court of Louis XIV who will be remembered in the first place for his compositions of harpsichord music, it is located at the first floor, overlooking the back garden.

The Botticelli room

The Lully room

...is named after a Renaissance painter from Florence who acquired immortal fame by his work "The birth of Venus". This room is located on the second floor.

...is named after a musician from Florence who was favoured by the "Roi Soleil" Louis XIV. At his Majesty's demand he didn't only write the music for ballets in which the King participated in his own person, but also the first operas in French language.

The Mozart room

...need not to be introduced to explain its name. This Mozart room is directly located next to our Fermette and could also be used as a private apartment, as it has a second room, a kitchen, and a lovely bathroom. You can make use of a lovely Yamaha piano.

The"Salons"

...these are the privileged meeting-points for guests and, of course, with the host and hostess. In Summer they offer a cool and shady place around the time for your aperitif after a strenuous hike, in winter they offer you the cosy warmth of the typically Ardennes styled stoves. They bear names of musicians: Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Sweelinck and Bach. Please, take good notice of the general smoking ban sustained by detectors, that applies to the house.

The premises

The Fermette is surrounded at three sides by gardens that are open to our guests. The pick-nick- tables, folding chairs and hammocks offer you the great possibility to relax, and find new energy.

Some regulations

Needless to say we will do our utmost to give you the comfort you need!

  • a general smoking ban for the interior of the buildings;
  • checking out at 11 AM;
  • paying cash at checking out (sorry, we have no credit card facilities);
  • we love dogs ! If yours is well educated and not a danger, it may be welcomed;

  Auditorium J.S. Bach

This multifunctional largest space of the Fermette has a part with lowered ceiling and a large communal table where ordinarily breakfast is served. But it also suits other purposes, like the annual gathering of Belgium poets at the most important day in Ronzon village-life, the "Bouquinerie-day" in mid-August.

Hiking

One is fully entitled to call the Ardennes a hiker's paradise, so it is all but surprising that it is given as the main reason by most guests for their visit. The immediate surroundings are inviting to engage in all kinds of activities, like mountain biking, road cycling, rock climbing, horseback riding and speleological adventures. The ever nearby Ourthe facilitates those who are fond of sport or leisure related to water (canoe trips, fly fishing, swimming).

You can get there by one of the many marked local trails or by the long distance trail 57. By the way, it could be an excellent idea to follow this trail along the Ourthe from its beginning at Liège to its end at Diekirch (GD of Luxemburg). You could easily take a central section out of it when you opt for a two- or three-days hiking arrangement with "Fermette Les Beaux Arts" and other cooperating guesthouses in Deulin and La Roche. Your host Boudewijn will be glad to inform about the numerous hiking possibilities with his knowledge and his maps. He might also help you to get your trips organised, for example where it comes to getting to or from a trailhead.

the village of Ronzon

the chapel of Saint Thibaut

This path leads straight to the chapel of St. Thibaut

In the surroundings of Ronzon, the small towns of La Roche and Durbuy attract many tourists. Both are dominated by a medieval castle, of which La Roche holds the most impressive one. It is not only there that La Roche is still marked by the battles that have raged as in the closing stages of World War II, when allied forces made a brave stand to deny the Germans a final breakthrough. Although locally the war and the reconstruction have left their traces, so did tourism; in Ronzon it is not hard to imagine that you still live in the year 1880, when Jacques Perk had his brief platonic romance with Mathilde. "Fermette Les Beaux Arts" and its furniture contribute highly to strengthen this impression...
